I released a collection of inspirational songs in 2002 entitled,
Singing with A New Voice. The CD is a mix of Pop,
Broadway, Celtic, Blues, Traditional, Classical and Contemporary
Christian selections, organized around the central theme of hope through
faith.
On my debut CD, I collaborated with Swift Creek Mill
Theater’s musical director, Paul Deiss, who created many of the
arrangements and orchestrations, as well as an original song, Break the
Bread. “It’s been refreshing to work with Liz because she allows the
creative process to flow freely, yet she is an artist who pays great
attention to detail,” Deiss said. “She amazed me with her versatility on
different musical styles, and her passion for the songs on this CD is
evident in her treatment of the lyrics. Having mixed these tracks, I
listened to Liz sing each song about a hundred times, but never got
tired of hearing her voice. She has an unforced, lyrical quality that is
often haunting.”
A line in one of the songs serves as a hallmark
statement of why I made this recording: "All things are mine since I am
His; how can I keep from singing?" This song, entitled How Can I Keep
from Singing, joins the following tracks in this warm and vibrant
collection: Thy Word, Be Thou My Vision, Swing Low Sweet Chariot,
Day By
Day/ Beautiful City medley (from the musical Godspell),
Down in the
River to Pray (from the movie Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou),
The Prayer
(duet with Jason Marks), Wade in the Water, Break the Bread (original by
Paul Deiss), When You Believe (from the movie Prince of Egypt),
Panis
Angelicus, Amazing Grace, and How Beautiful.
I wanted this collection to speak to the listener on
many levels, and deliver its message of hope within a theatrical
presentation, offering familiar and fresh new music, varied
instrumentation, and a spirit that would rise above the everyday
concerns we all face.
